Agile has revolutionized many industries, not least of which is the software and hardware industry. In an organization, Agile is used for everything from product development to product marketing to the actual product assembly itself. It helps reduce costs, shorten cycles, improve collaboration between team members and improve overall quality and efficiency. 

Agile also empowers business owners by giving them a framework to build upon. Often these frameworks include supply chain management, inventory management, warehousing or manufacturing software, as well as marketing plans or methods.

The first thing that any supply chain needs to be able to do in order to be successful is to know its place in the global supply chain. Agile starts with knowing the physical limitations of the organization, and what it can actually do within those limits. Next, Agile identifies the capabilities and constraints of the organization that are hindering its ability to function within those constraints. The third thing Agile does is identify the organizational dysfunction or lack thereof that is causing the dysfunction. Once this is in place, the supply chain management can begin. Agile takes into consideration three key functions: discovery, analysis and control.

Discovery covers the process of understanding what is happening in the supply chain at every stage. Analysis deals with gathering information to support what has been discovered, and finally control involve exercising the information identified to either improve the process or to make changes that will help the process run more smoothly. For example, if there is a bottleneck in the supply chain, the product manufacturing process may need to be adjusted to avoid bottlenecks. On the other hand, if there is a good understanding of the problem, changes to the methodology will prevent a new bottleneck from forming.
