A paperless office is simply a workplace where the utilization of paper is either completely eliminated or significantly reduced. This is usually accomplished by converting other papers and documents into electronic form, a procedure called digitization. In most paperless workplaces, there will be no need for filing cabinets, shredders, or similar systems to maintain records because everything will be stored electronically. In some cases, some production tasks may be performed without any computers at all, such as making copies or taking regular shipments.

The first step to go paperless is to create an online account with a reputable provider. Most online account providers allow users to create their accounts without fees. After creating the online account, the user will usually need to sign up for a paperless billing account from the company. This service usually has monthly fees and requires customers to update their payment information on a regular basis so that the company can properly bill their suppliers. If a customer doesn't want to sign up for online account maintenance, they can go paperless by printing invoices themselves and sending them out to their suppliers.

Creating a paperless office will not only save money for the company, but also for the employees. With fewer expenses and time-consuming jobs, more time can be allocated towards core business activities, and more productivity can be achieved through using electronic billing systems. There are many companies that offer this new processes and services to many companies at once. Many companies even offer these services for a small monthly fee.
