Anti-Corruption in Supply Chain Management primarily address two broad perspectives: prevention of corruption within supply chains and its management; and the identification and elimination of obstacles to efficient supply chain functioning.

Anti-Corruption efforts typically include activities that hinder or oppose corruption in the company. As corruption often takes several forms, anti-corruption efforts normally vary in scale and in approach. A distinction between reactive and preventative measures may sometimes be drawn.

Proximity to government officials provides a fertile environment for corruption. For instance, the proximity of public officials to private sector executives and key decision makers provides an opportunity for kickbacks and other corrupt practices such as kickback payments, facilitation payments, and favorable reviews. Moreover, public officials may be tempted to "help out" one another since they have intimate knowledge of where things are at. In cases where public officials to take actions that aid the private sector, there is no way of knowing if it was appropriately motivated. Another example of proximate cause for corruption is the availability of public employment. An employee who knows that he/she has access to lucrative private sector positions may succumb to bribery because he/she will have little choice.

Lawmakers, judges, police officers, and other elected public officials who are entrusted with the public's money can be susceptible to bribery. In addition, businessmen and vendors who need government contracts may provide kickbacks to public officials in exchange for smooth execution of the project. In order to curb corruption through a strategic anti-corruption effort, organizations must develop internal controls over its various aspects such as: procurement strategies, quality standards, management systems, and public fund management.
